St. Augustine Parish Ministries Youth Ministry Commission
The mission of Youth Ministry in the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville is
to empower our young people to understand and explore a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ within their Catholic Faith through * Enablement * Shared
Leadership * Prayer Service and * Spirituality. The Youth Ministry Commission
currently has ten discerned, selected or appointed members. The Youth Ministry

Deanery Youth Ministry Commission
The New Albany Deanery Catholic Youth Ministry Commission is to promote and
advance the mission of the New Albany Deanery Catholic Youth Ministries and for
the providing of resources to, and leadership formation for all Youth Ministry
programs in the Deanery. The Deanery Youth Ministry Commission meets on the
third Tuesday of each month from August - May. Meetings are held at the Aquinas
Center and run from 7:00-9:00 pm. There is a representative from each parish who
advises and works with the Director of Youth.
Boy Scouts
The Mission of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is to prepare young men to make
ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the
Scout Oath and Scout Law. Currently Boy Scout Troop 89 consists of 20 boys and
10 adult leaders. The boy scouts stay active year round with activities and
projects including hiking, camping, attending summer camp, working on merit
badges, etc. The Troop does not receive direct financial assistance from the
Catholic Community of Jeffersonville, however, Sacred Heart makes meeting space
and storage space available and both St. Augustine and Sacred Heart support

Charter Organization Rep
Steamboat Stroll
The Steamboat Stroll is our annual community building fundraiser. It began in
1991. We secure sponsors who receive advertisement in our brochures and on our
t-shirts for their sponsorship fee. Then we invite parishioners to serve on our
Steamboat Stroll committee: Sponsorship, Publicity, Refreshments, Door Prizes,
Registration and Course Volunteers. Everyone in the parish community and
community at large is invited to participate as a Steamboat Stroll participates
either as a walker, runner or prayer. The Steamboat Stroll is a scenic 5K river
walk or run. It takes place on the first Wednesday in September. Contact: Maggie

Youth Ministry Planning Team
Plan events for junior and senior high youth ministry, learn leadership
skills and share and grow in the faith. The Youth Ministry planning team is
comprised of youth and adults who meet once a month on Thursday evenings from
6-7pm. There is a youth ministry section/page on the parish website and bulletin
board where youth ministry events are publicized. The Youth Ministry Commission
is also consulted in the planning of the youth ministry program. Contact:

Drop-In
An opportunity for junior high youth to spend time with their peers and adult
leaders engaged in conversation, playing games, doing homework if one chooses,
participating in service projects when available, etc. Open to all junior high
youth in grades 6, 7 & 8 in the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville-Sacred
Heart-St. Augustine. Adult leaders are needed for Drop-In sessions which take
place on two - three Mondays during the months of September-April. Contacts:

College Ministry
Getting involved in college ministry will allow you to see God in new
friends you meet and new places you travel. Some of the adventures being
offered this year are: college campus visits, a winter retreat, a ski trip,
service experiences in Campton, Kentucky and more. Ages 18-22 Contact:

Summer Daze
Summer Daze is a program offered to Junior High Youth providing them with an
opportunity to do Christian service, be with friends, learn about their faith as
well as participate in fun activities. Summer Daze usually takes place on four
Tuesdays in the summer (July or July/August). High school youth and adults serve
on our Summer Daze Team. Team leaders help plan, set up/clean up and assist with
prayer, activities, and service experiences while supporting and supervising our
young people. Leaders are asked to be a role model and good example to others,
have a positive attitude, demonstrate patience and respect, work hard along with
our participants, follow through with responsibilities and have fun

Young Adult Ministry
Young Adult Ministry is for young adults ages 23-39 years of age. There are a
variety of ways to meet people, grow in faith and get involved in your parish
and deanery community. To name a few ... River Bats Game, Theology on Tap, Pasta
with The Pastor, Campton Mission Trip, Advent Reflection, Marriage Retreats,

Athletic Committee
To serve the youth of our parish and help them grow and develop to their full
potential as Catholic Christians, teammates, leaders and athletes. To administer
and oversee all year round athletic programs for 3-12 graders provided by the
Catholic Community of Jeffersonville. The Athletic Committee is comprised of
9-11 members and the Youth Ministry Coordinator, who shall have an active
commitment to the sports program in the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville.
The Athletic Committee meets monthly July-June. Contact: Eddie Terkhorn
Confirmation
To provide high school youth a closer connection to the parish community and
prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is in
collaboration with Faith Formation. Contact:

TYRO (Teen Youth Reaching Out)
TYRO is a high school service club designed to aid our high school aged
parishioners in their quest to be of service for others. TYRO meets monthly and
