St. Augustine Parish Ministries Family Life and Social Concerns Commission
The family Life and Social Concerns Commission oversees all social activities
of the parish as well as all community outreach activities of the parish. This
committee meets monthly and covers a wide variety of activities including:

The Family Life and Social Concerns Commission is made up of 8 - 10 members
who meet each month to plan activities and events for the families of the

Advent Giving Project
The parish Advent Giving Project help families in our local community to have
a happier Christmas. We begin on the first Sunday of Advent by having
parishioners sign up to sponsor families by purchasing food and gifts for the
children. The weekend before Christmas the food is collected in the parish hall

Bereavement Support
This ministry gives those who have experienced the
loss of a loved one the opportunity to meet with others and to help with the

Catholic Community Connection
The monthly parish newsletter is published in
conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish. The newsletter is always in need of
writers for a variety of articles about the life of our parishes. Contact:

Center for Lay Ministries
The Center for Lay Ministries has been providing
emergency services to residents in Clark County, Indiana since 1970. Their
services include a self selection food pantry, financial assistance, food
delivery to the elderly, a Christmas Basket project, a halfway house for women
and other volunteer opportunities. The Center was created by a group of downtown
ministers who wanted one place to provide emergency services to the needy.

Children's Halloween Party
The parish sponsors a Halloween party for all
children of the parish. They play games, have snacks, make pumpkins, have their
picture taken and they get the chance to make a frame for their picture. The
admission to the party is one canned good that is used for the Advent Giving

Community Kitchen
The Community Kitchen is located at the corner of
Chestnut and Pearl Streets and provides a warm meal Monday-Friday. It is run
totally by volunteers. Contact:

Coffee and Donuts
Each Sunday from August-April when the Faith
Formation classes are in session, coffee and donuts are served in the parish
hall right after the 8:30 a.m. Mass. Parents are invited to join other parents
for social time and to get to know one another, while their children are in
class. We ask that parents that have children in the Faith Formation Program
help with coffee and donuts each week. Contact:

Faith Based Health Ministry
The promotion of body, mind and spirit health and
healing of church members through education and wellness programs. It includes
the intentional care of the spirit. Contact: Judy Storz
Father-Son Dinner
Each year the week before Fathers Day the parish
honors all fathers and sons with a dinner. Every man is either a father or a son
and all are invited to attend. It is customary for the women of the parish to
cook and host this dinner. Contact: Judy Storz
Fellowship Committee
This committee is responsible for parish activities
that bring families together for fun, and fellowship. They provide opportunities
for parishioners to meet their church family and get to know them on a more

Funeral Lunch Worker
St. Augustine parish provides a luncheon after all
parish funerals. They organize and serve those luncheons. Volunteers are always
needed to provide menu items and to help serve the luncheon. Contact:

Funeral-Prepare-a-Dish
Along with the volunteers who work at the funeral
luncheons, we need those in the parish who would be willing to prepare a dish
for a funeral luncheon. Contact:

Haiti Committee
This committee oversees financial assistance for
our sister parish St. Raphael in St. Raphael, Haiti. Items such as, but not
limited to, food, clothing, medical and school supplies are collected and
shipped. Regular mission trips to St. Raphael are also held. This ministry is a

Harvest Chicken Dinner
This committee is responsible for the planning,
organizing and implementing the harvest Chicken Dinner. Over 50 workers are
needed each year to hold this dinner. Contact: Joe Hochadel
Loaves and Fishes
This is an ecumenical group of churches and
organizations in the Jeffersonville community that is committed to feeding the
less fortunate. There is an average of 130 meals served each Saturday at St.
Luke's Church. This ministry is supported by donations from local churches and

Marie Robertson Ministry
This is an outreach program that helps the homeless
by providing food, clothing, and furniture to God's less fortunate. A donation
is given from the monthly Caring Collection to help this ministry. Contact: Marie Robertson
Marriage Preparation
Couples coming to the parish to be married first meet with the pastor/deacon
to fill out paperwork and then they are administered the FOCCUS evaluation
(Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding, and Study). When
finished they are assigned a married couple who will meet with them three-five
times in their homes. The engaged couple is also asked to attend a one-day Pre-Cana
Program in the parish or to make an Engaged Encounter weekend or a Tobit

Mother-Daughter Banquet
Each year on the Wednesday before Mothers Day, all mothers and daughters of
the parish are invited to attend this dinner in their honor. It is customary for
the men of the parish to cook and host this dinner. Contact: Judy Storz
Peace and Social Justice
This important ministry is being developed at St. Augustine. Issues such as
respect human life, the death penalty, abortion, homelessness, and many more
will be discussed and ways the parish can reach out and help those in our
community that need our love, support, and prayers. Contact:

Quilters
A group of ladies meet every Wednesday morning in
the rectory and make quilts that are raffled or sold and donate the proceeds to

Substance Abuse Ministry
Substance Abuse Ministry (SAM) will provide
education about addictive disease: increase awareness of the pain in people's
lives and places where help can be found and offer support, understanding,
acceptance, and healing. Contact:

Welcoming Committee
This committee is responsible for welcoming all new
members of the parish to the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville, St. Augustine
